Milpitas was originally inhabited by the Tamyen people, a
Native American tribe.
In the mid-19th century, the land that is now Milpitas was
part of Rancho Milpitas, a large land grant given to José María Alviso by the
Mexican government.
In 1852, the California gold rush brought a flood of
settlers to the area, and Milpitas began to grow as a farming community.
In 1953, Milpitas was incorporated as a city, with a
population of just over 1,000 people.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Milpitas experienced a period of
rapid growth, as high-tech companies moved into the area and the population
swelled.
In the 1980s, Milpitas became known as the "Crossroads
of Silicon Valley," due to its location at the intersection of several
major highways and its proximity to many high-tech companies.
Since the 1990s, Milpitas underwent significant
redevelopment, with the construction of a new city hall and community center,
as well as several new parks and shopping centers.

Here are some of the most popular neighborhoods in the City of Milpitas, California:
Milpitas Transit Area: This neighborhood is located in the heart of Milpitas and is known for its proximity to public transportation, including the Milpitas Transit Center and the Great Mall/Main light rail station. It is also home to the Great Mall.
The Milpitas Transit Area, also known as the Milpitas BART Station Area, is centered around the Milpitas BART station, which is part of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. The BART station was completed in 2017 and provides access to San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area.
The development of the Milpitas Transit Area began in the early 2000s, with the adoption of the Midtown Specific Plan by the City of Milpitas in 2002.
